There are too many old programs that the customer does not have the install packages for so a clean install is out.If I have the CD in, it just errors out. Thanks to someone above i thought i'd try C:\i386 .. Advertisements do not imply our endorsement of that product or service.
you need to insert your windows xp disk into another computer and copy the i386 folder to another location.... This feature is not available right now. Any suggestions? Probably there is some communication problem between the cd-rom drive and the cpu and so if you click'ok' button WHILE the cd but is spinning, it is able to pick up
Rinse then dry with kitchen roll.Only other thing I can think of is a hardware fault (edge connectors, plugs & sockets etc).It would be worth formatting before trying again after attending What worked was removing the hard drive from the notebook, and installing the I386 file in the hard drive, using an external enclosure. Which media are you using? The speed of the burn did not matter, it was how the drive is addressed.
This is happily resolved!!! Asms Windows Xp Service Pack 3 Followed Terry's suggestions, managed to update the drivers for my CD/DVD-player (which it didn't recognize as CDRom btw), populated the volume by putting another disk in it (not the XP one) Thank you!!!GIVE IT A TRY ;-) LIKE I SAID IT WORKED FOR ME AND IT SHOULD WORK FOR YOU...I ACTUALLY COULDNT BELIEVE I HADNT THOUGHT OF IT BEFORE Votes: Rating: 0 Thank you!!!

Once I took the stick out, rebooted, hey presto, Windows XP finishes the rest of the installation. As long as the CD drive wasn't in, you can type C:\I386 and it will find the file. Me too. and try not to load or run other programs at the same time unless you have i gig or more ram on the computer..i find it better then nero or alcho120 Asms File Missing Fix

I had a similar problem upgrading my OS from XP Home to XP-professional (I use Dutch version,so there can be slight difference in terminology) ERROR: unrepairable error, DATA error (cyclic redundance it seemed like it wasnt even trying to read my CD-ROM drive at all..I fixed this problem by going into the bios and changing the SATA from AHCI to IDE. I've had experiences before with quickly burned CD's not working on multiple other computers, while the same burn image at a low speed did work. check over here After trying various attempts (new dvd drive, another xp disk, loading a generic cd-rom driver), I happened across this forum and found Terry's fix from back in '07.
