I have installed VS2005 SP1 without a problem onto XP SP2. That knowledge base article points to a hotfix for Windows Server 2003, which is apparently required before installing large updates (and VS2K5 SP1 indeed appears to be large).
They re-appeared. That scenario is not currently supported in Visual Studio 2002, 2003, or 2005. Please include me in on the list when the hotfix is available.
